Empowering Deaf Society (EDS) is a Deaf-led charity that aims to ensure opportunities, skills, education and inclusion for Deaf people.
EDS's primary focus is developing new and innovative services that meet the needs of Deaf people in London. Our aim is to educate and empower Deaf people by removing the barriers they face as a result of their disability.
What does the “Deaf Connect” project involve?
We will be running social clubs every week where you can catch up with friends, meet new friends
and discuss the latest news, issues and gossip.
We will also be running workshops. Our workshops will cover topics that are interesting to you and that will help you in everyday life.
Why do we need to do it?
Many services for Deaf people have closed down and Deaf people can feel isolated and unsupported, with no opportunities open to them. We want to give Deaf people the chance to connect with other people in the Deaf Community, where they can discuss and learn about the issues that are important to them.
How can we do it?
We receive funding from People’s Health Trust, which allows us to provide these services to Deaf people living in five London boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest.
